About the walk

Once known as one of the worst post industrial sites in Europe and now run by Derbyshire Wildlife Trust. A great example of what can be done with old brownfield spaces. A mix of grassland, woodland, river and wetland, this site can offer some wonderful birds. I have recorded over 100 species here, including Yellowhammer, Stonechat and Willow Tit. I have been visiting for almost 20 years. The walk is around 7km and will start on the Country Park where grassland is the main habitat, then take a look at the Reedbed wetland area and the Duck Marsh. We will then walk in woodland along the River Rother before returning to the Country Park. A free lift from the Belper area or on route is available on request.
