On our second visit to North Cave, this time with the Bakewell Bird Study Group, what a fantastic day, seeing a total of 61 species. The Whooper Swans were great to see, as was a sleeping Red-crested Pochard. We were treated to 2 incredible views of the Bittern. First, hiding in the reeds, and later, it was out in the open.
6 raptors added to the excitement, particularly a Peregrine that landed on a tree right in front of the Holm View Hide. Once again, we were fortunate to have a window of pleasant weather, with golden light providing excellent photography opportunities. The Little Owl evaded us for the second consecutive trip, but perhaps we’ll have better luck next time.
