Parkgate (Dee Estuary) - Day Trip

About the walk

This trip includes free travel from the Belper/Matlock area, or at an agreed location on route. There will be a hight tide of 9.88m which could bring in raptors and owls to fed on the fleeing mammals. Monday has a higher tide of 10.02m, but obviously we have to stick to the weekend. The Dee Estuary is a huge saltmarsh that spans as far as the eye can see from Parkgate. Up until the 50's, Parkgate was a seaside resort, but the rapid growth of the saltmarsh ended this and it now makes up part of Dee Estuary reserve. It is now designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest Winter wildfowl and wading birds flock here, and at high tide the saltmarsh is a great place to see huge numbers, It also gives great opportunities for good numbers of birds of prey, including Hen Harrier, Short-eared Owl, Barn Owl, Peregrine & Marsh Harrier. We will intend to be in Parkgate by 9:30am. Leaving Belper area around 6:30 -7:00am We need at least 2 people to book on this tour to make it financially viable. In the event of bad weather, the trip would be cancelled and a full refund or credit note issued. (Your preference) You will be given notice 2 days before the tour is due & a full refund will be issued. Facilities Include : Toilets & café's in Parkgate .
